Media Mock Exam (Technology Question)
'How have your post production digital creative skills developed over time?'
Throughout the course of both my AS and A2 media work I have built and developed my digital creative skills, which can be evidenced by the progress and improvement of my work as I became more familiar with various tools and techniques. For both my AS and A2 media coursework I chose to complete the print briefs and I have also volunteered to become Sub - Editor for 'Shine Magazine' (part of a magazine competition offered to participating schools across the country) because I have a dedicated interest in becoming a print journalist.
Throughout my AS coursework, after thorough research of audience expectations and genre conventions, I created a music magazine of the indie genre, titled 'Now Indie'. I completed a series of photo shoots, but to make my magazine more unique and appealing I arranged a surrealistic photo shoot involving a model wearing a giant rabbit head along with a dress, and selected the most successful image to use as part of my double page spread. Throughout my A2 coursework I created a regional magazine, titled 'Cornish Life', which also allowed me to improve my skills relating to audience appeal and genre conventions. Alongside my regional magazine I also created a billboard and a website relating to this genre, which improved my digital and creative skills as I was working with new platforms and formats. This also allowed me to continue developing my digital skills as I was continuing to work on platforms such as Photoshop and InDesign. For the regional front cover in my A2 coursework I completed a surrealist photo shoot at and around the areas of Lanhydrock House. I edited my photographs in Photoshop using new tools such as the spot healing brush and the magic wand tool to remove certain areas of my image to create a surrealist effect. In terms of research, I also used Thinglink for my analysis's of various texts, and Survey Monkey to gain an understanding on audience expectations of my magazine.
Throughout the course of my AS and A2 coursework I have used a various range of media platforms that have helped to demonstrate the progress of my work and improve my digital creative skills. Examples of these platforms are Blogger - used to document my coursework, Survey Monkey - to ask a certain audience demographic on what would appeal to them and Photoshop - to construct my digital work. I also used media technologies such as Dreamweaver and InDesign as contributions to the creation of my work, with using equipment such as the type and shape tool. Photoshop was also a significant factor in the practical production and editing of both my AS and A2 work, but using this platform more frequently ensured I was improving my digital creative skills, as I was gaining a better understanding on tools such as the move tool, crop tool, healing brush tool, spot healing tool and elliptical marquee tool, and how I can appropriately apply these to my work to get the desired effect.
